Fire Dept. Called To Ossining Senior Centers

1264

The motor to a fishtank caused a small fire at about 8:30 a.m. today in an upper-floor hallway at Bethel on Narragansett Avenue in Ossining. The fire caused minor damage to a wall and some ceiling tiles before being knocked down, according to Ossining Fire Chief Donnie Farrell.

Bethel, formerly called Bethel Nursing Home, is an independent-living senior retirement residence. None of the residents were injured, although about 40 residents were evacuated to

other wings and to lower levels of the building with the assistance of Ossining firefighters. Ambulance crews from Ossining, Briarcliff Manor, and Croton-on-Hudson were called to the scene as a precaution.

Later that morning at about 10:30 a.m., the Ossining Fire Department was called out to another senior facility in Ossining – Victoria Home on North Malcolm Street. A boiler had apparently broken, causing some smoke and flooding in the basement. Nobody was injured.
