Welcome to the home page of Jug Tavern of Sparta, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation that owns the historic Jug Tavern in the Sparta neighborhood of Ossining, NY.
The Jug Tavern is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is located at the corner of Revolutionary Road and Rockledge Avenue one block west of Route 9, just past the Arcadian Shopping Center and the Ossining campus of Westchester Community College.
Originally the Jug Tavern, built about 1760, was a way station on the Albany Post Road. Sparta, a small neighborhood of about a dozen acres bordered by the Hudson River, is the earliest settlement that remains intact in the Town of Ossining. One of Sparta’s qualities almost unique among historic neighborhoods is that the score of buildings most worthy of note stand today where they were built more than a century and a half ago.
