The 16th annual Ossining Matters Educational Foundation 5K run / 2 mile walk took place on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 and it was fabulous!
With a hint of Fall weather and spirited participants, the event was a tremendous success! Over 500 runners and walkers demonstrated their positive support for the students of the Ossining school district. Once again, our volunteers were numerous and assisted with various tasks including registration, handing out water, marshaling the course, and cheering on participants.
The race ended at the community center with an awards ceremony.
Ossining Matters would like to extend a “big” thank you to OM’s race chair Kevin Dono, the Ossining Teachers Association, Ossining School Board, community members, politicians, and various local organizations and businesses. Also, we greatly thank and appreciate the monetary support provided by our sponsors and those who gave in kind donations.
The race began on Main Street with Autumn Valdez singing of the national anthem. Kids and adults lined up at the start with excitement and an eagerness to begin the race! The first mile took participants through the aqueduct trail beginning at the Double Arches. Runners veered down the hill behind Avalon Ossining Apartments for a mile trail run through Crawbuckie Nature Preserve out to Beach Road and back up through the Aqueduct trail. Smiling faces and cheering crowds welcomed the return of walkers and runners. Post-race refreshments, face painting, games and awards took place in the Ossining Community Center. The annual 5K run / 2 mile walk once again brought our community together in support of students who attend the Ossining schools.
Ossining Matters extends a tremendous thank you to all who donated their time,
resources and support for this event!
Come back soon to mark your calendars: The 17th annual Ossining Matters Run/Walk is being planned for September 2019.
