Ossining Sanitation Worker Dies After On-The-Job Injury

The Village of Ossining regrets to announce that John Rodrigues, a Village-employed sanitation worker, has sustained a fatal head injury while on the job this morning. Mr. Rodrigues, 24, had been working for the Village of Ossining Sanitation Department since March 2005. He fell and hit his head while completing a sanitation collection route on Browning Drive.

“Everyone in the village is profoundly shocked and saddened by this very tragic accident,” said Linda Abels, Ossining’s Interim Village Manager, “Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Rodrigues’s family, friends, and co-workers.” The Village is conducting grief counseling services for the Department of Public Works and other staff members. Sanitation collection is suspended for the remainder of the day.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: John will be reposing Friday July 22, 2005 at Leach & Thomas, Inc. Funeral Home, 32 State Street in Ossining from 02:00 – 04:00 p.m. & 07:00 – 09:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, burial at St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
