Local Arts Grants & a Busy Work Session

Last week Arts Westchester presented 2019 Arts Alive grants totally over $100,000 to recipients across Westchester. The funding for these grants is provided by New York State. Assemblywoman Sandy Galef is a long-time champion for local arts programming. She was joined at the podium by local officials and art program leaders, including four recipients right here in Ossining. Congratulations to the Ossining Public Library, the Ossining Documentary & Discussion Series, Lindsay Francis and the Westchester Collaborative Theater for being among the awardees, and thank you for contributing to the cultural richness of Ossining.

Last Wednesday’s meeting began with appointments of new members to the Civilian Police Complaint Review Board. In recent years, the village board has focused on fully constituting our volunteer boards/committees and, in some cases, strengthening their missions, so that village policies and practices can more directly reflect the people of our community. The work session agenda included a discussion of the outreach plan for establishing the Comprehensive Plan Committee, as well as how to move forward with addressing the impact of decades of vacancy at 200 Main Street, and the potential for a written lease and tenant rights information for all tenants. Click here for a link to the agenda and meeting video.

No Meeting This Week

It is a fifth Wednesday, so there will be no village board meeting. Join us next week at the courthouse on Spring Street. That meeting will open with a public hearing regarding the New York State rent stabilization program ETPA as described in item C of the January 16 agenda linked here. Mark your calendar for February 28 when we will hold an information session on the Comprehensive Plan. Visit here to learn more and to apply to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Committee.

With regards,
