Ireland Sing Sing Connection & a Busy Board Meeting

This busy weekend of events honoring Martin Luther King, Jr included an inspiring program at Ossining High School raising funds for the Cooperative Scholarship, as well as an interfaith service at Congregation Sons of Israel sponsored by the Briarcliff Ossining Ministerial Association (BOMA).

On Sunday morning representatives of Sing Sing Correctional Facility and the Sing Sing Prison Museum Board, joined Supervisor Levenberg and me in welcoming former mayor of Limerick, Joe Harrington and his family from Ireland. Hon. Harrington is involved in the restoration of the Glen House School in Lyreacrompane and discovered a connection between the historic school house and Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

Please join us in congratulating Michael Lantz on his new position as Police Sergeant. Last week’s village board meeting began with his swearing in. We wish Sergeant Lantz wisdom and courage in his new role, and thank him for his service to the people of Ossining. Visit here to view the swearing in of Sergeant Lantz. The Village Board also invited long serving members of land use boards to join us for a special presentation honoring their years of volunteer service to the community. Visit here to view the special presentation to these volunteers who have dedicated years of expertise in service to the village. The public hearing related to the Hidden Cove development at the site of the old Brandreth Pill Factory will be continued on March 6. Visit here to view comments made at last week’s public hearing on this matter. Several people commented at the start of the Board Resolutions to address the proposed public hearing related to the NYS rent stabilization program ETPA. Click here to view those comments. The public hearing will take place on February 6, 2019 at 07:30 p.m. at the courthouse on Spring Street.

    This Week

This week’s work session opens with an update regarding MOGO, the enhanced pedestrian and cycling trail proposed to connect the Village of Ossining and the Towns of Ossining and New Castle. Thank you to our colleagues in Town government for taking the lead on the effort to garner a Hudson River Valley Greenway grant to make this concept a reality. Visit here to view the full work session agenda.

As always, work sessions are an opportunity for the Village Board to have discussions with staff and invited experts regarding potential policy or legislative changes. We invite community members to reach out to us by e-mail bot@villageofossining.org anytime, or to speak during Visitor Recognition at legislative sessions, typically held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

    With regards,
