This week we hold our first public sessions on the Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative. Click here for links to both of these virtual sessions:

Spanish speakers are invited to participate on Thursday, December 10, 2020 07:00 p.m.
English speakers are invited to participate on Saturday, December 12, 2020 11:00 a.m.

Additionally, an online survey will be distributed this week asking community members to share your experiences, perceptions, and recommendations about law enforcement in our community. The survey will be available in hardcopy. Smaller sessions are being scheduled as well for stakeholders including students, seniors, and the Latino, Black and LGBTQ communities. One-on-one interviews have been conducted with dozens of individuals in law enforcement, community organizational leaders, the Civilian Police Complaint Review Board, and others. Individuals who would like to express themselves by email or voicemail will soon be provided with those outlets as well.

All of the public engagement underway this fall and into early January will inform a draft plan that will be presented in the new year for public comment. A final version of the plan will come to the village board in March of 2021.
This project was initiated by the Governor’s Executive Order 203, but it will have a meaningful impact for our community because of the leadership of the village board, the dedication of the working committee, and the engagement of community members. We encourage you to please participate by whichever of these public engagement methods work best for you.
