Brookline Community Mental Health Center has been an integral part of the Brookline community for almost 60 years, serving residents who have experienced difficult life circumstances and mental health issues. Long considered a premiere behavioral health system in the greater Boston community, BCMHC has been providing high quality, innovative, and affordable care in a welcoming and reassuring setting. After 38 years at the helm, Dr. Cynthia Price has announced a wish to retire, effective this spring/summer.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to build on a wonderful foundation of high quality, culturally competent services delivered within Brookline and the Greater Boston area. It is a $6M organization staffed by more than 100 highly skilled clinicians who have served more than 3,700 clients and provided more than 40,000 visits to clients in the past year. The Center is a leader in creating innovative community-based programs that integrate mental health services within educational and medical settings, serving children and adults with quality care that is widely recognized throughout the region and nationally. The Center is also widely respected for the training programs it provides to graduate students, and is blessed by having a wonderfully supportive and diverse Board of Directors, as well as a local community that recognizes the value the Center offers.

Ideal candidates should:

  • be mission driven and passionate about ensuring that quality mental health care is provided to all people in need
  • possess a leadership style that is inclusive, collaborative, and flexible
  • have a strong business and entrepreneurial capability
  • be able to demonstrate a commitment to a culturally diverse community
  • be committed to and comfortable with a strong fund-raising program
  • have a track record of working closely with a wide range of community partners in the healthcare and business community, as well as maintaining close working relationships with elected officials, consumers, staff, community partners, funders and a Board of Directors
  • have experience with diverse funding streams & a history of developing new and creative ways to bring revenue into a mission-driven organization
  • have a track record of being both a visionary and strategic leader
  • experience building and working within models of health care integration;be able to inspire and motivate others in the creation and development of innovative service that emerge from evolving community needs
  • have a reputation for honesty, integrity & credibility
  • possess strong management skills, have a solid understanding of operations, be decisive and a consensus builder
  • as the “face of the organization”, have excellent communications and presentation skills
  • possess a solid understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements of community mental health organizations and a familiarity with federal and state financing and reform efforts
  •  be experienced and comfortable with the use of electronic technologies as important
  •  management and clinical tools; appreciate the importance of metrics and outcome measures
  • be Master’s prepared in a healthcare discipline, with a minimum of ten years of management experience in a healthcare setting, five of which are in senior leadership positions within a behavioral health environment, particularly a mission-driven non-profit setting

The Center is blessed by being located in “the best suburban community in the entire country”, according to a recent study based on its “livability”.  It is not only minutes from downtown Boston and all of its cultural amenities, but Brookline is a rich and diverse community with great schools, low crime rate, excellent healthcare systems, easy access to jobs, housing, and transportation systems, and a great “night-life” for the young at heart.
